Dr Geoff Symons
General Practitioner (Associate) MBBS Dip RACOG

Geoff has had many years experience as a General Practitioner - since 1990 at Gumeracha, and has a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In addition to this special interest, Dr Symons is committed to providing comprehensive Family Medical Care - from antenatal, post natal, paediatric, women's health, men's health, mental health, sports and emergency medicine. He is an accredited Ante-natal Shared Care provider.

Dr Mark Lang
General Practitioner (Associate) MBBS Dip Anaesthetics

Mark has had many years experience as a General Practitioner - since 1993 at Gumeracha, and obtained his Diploma in Anaesthetics in London in 1993. Dr Lang is also committed to providing comprehensive Family Medical Care, with a keen interest in all areas of general practice from antenatal care, emergency care, mental health, aged and palliative care. He is an accredited Ante-natal Shared Care provider.

Dr Chris Withnall
General Practitioner (Associate) MBBS BSC FACRRM

Dr Chris Withnall completed medical school in 2000 then travelled Australia gaining experience in rural and remote medicine, emergency management and surgery on his journey to becoming a General Practioner. He was awarded Fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote in 2013, having completed his final years of training in Gumeracha.

Dr Withnall has a broad experience of all facets of general practice, but has a particular interest in healthy aging, sports and injury rehabilitation, and lifestyle improvement. He has advanced skills in minor surgical procedures in the clinic and can assess and treat many skin lesions, with strong referral pathways for plastic surgical opinion for more difficult cases. He practices what he preaches and would love to help you feel and live a "better kind of normal".

Dr Karen Williams
General Practitioner (Associate) BMBS FRACGP

Karen has been with Gumeracha Medical Practice since August 2012, following experiences in several other rural general practices Karen achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2013. She has a keen interest in women's health, child health and all aspects of general practice.

Dr Parbati Gurung
GP Registrar MBBS

Dr Gurung comes to Gumeracha from January 2018. Originally from Nepal, Parbati has experience as a doctor both overseas and in Australia. She comes to us following four years at Para Hills. Parbati has a genuine interest in comprehensive family care and health promotion. Parbati is also skilled and experienced in all women's health issues, including insertion and removal of Mirena.

Dr Erich Heinzle
General Practitioner MBBS Grad Dip OH&SM MPH FAFOEM

Erich has been associated with Gumeracha Medical Practice since 2004, mainly during after hours and on call work. He has been consulting here regularly since February 2012. Erich has extensive experience in Occupational Medicine and specializes in work related injuries.

Dr Tom Davey

Dr Davey has also had many years’ experience as a General Practitioner (since 1991 at Lobethal) and has a special interest in care of the older person.  Tom does regular rounds at the local residential aged care facilities.  He also enjoys all other aspects of comprehensive family medical care and preventative medicine.

Dr Linda Porteous

Dr Porteous has had many years’ experience as a General Practitioner (since 1987 at Lobethal) and has a special interest in women’s health. In addition to this special interest, Linda is committed to providing comprehensive care for her patients. She has been delighted to have been able to care for multiple generations of family members over the past years.

Dr Porteous is not currently able to take on new patients.

Dr Amos Maina

Dr Maina was born in Kenya where he completed his early education . He trained as a pharmacist at the University of Nairobi, then worked in government hospitals, manufacturing and in retail pharmacy. He moved to Australia with his wife in 2001 and they continued to work in community pharmacy before he decided to change career. He enrolled at Flinders University as a mature age student. After completing Medical School in 2014 he worked at Flinders Medical Centre, the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospitals before embarking on GP training. He is passionate about Men's Health and Chronic Disease Management. He lives in Cudlee Creek with his wife, who is a pharmacist in Gumeracha. They enjoy gardening, and love to travel when they can.

We are very pleased to welcome Dr Maina back to Gum Medical, after several years gaining experience in other practices, while he completes his General Practice training.

Dr Juthi Hossain
MBBS, DipChildHealth (DCH), Certificate of Women’s Health (CWH)

Dr Juthi Hossain joined Gumeracha Medical Practice in 2022 with extensive clinical experience in South Australian hospitals (Flinders Medical Centre, Repatriation General Hospital and Noarlunga Hospital) in different specialties.

Juthi enjoys all facets of General Practice and has a special interest in working with children, women’s health, aged care, mental health, acute and chronic pain medicine.

She enjoys painting and getting outdoors

Dr Sonia Dremainis
GP registrar, MD, PGCertRehab, BPhysio

Graduating medicine with distinction from Flinders University, Sonia provides high quality medical care and has received awards in Women’s Health from RANZCOG and named Intern of the year for Modbury Emergency department. She enjoys working with children and has an interest in obstetrics and gynecology and is accredited for insertion and removals of Implanon’s. Sonia has a strong background in musculoskeletal and rehabilitation medicine having practiced as a physiotherapist prior to her medical career and completing a postgraduate certificate in Rehabilitation. Her other areas of interest are in palliative care, emergency medicine and skin lesion removal.

Dr Cherilyn White

Cherilyn is new to the Gum Medical team, joining in 2022 as a GP registrar, soon to achieve Fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). She has previously worked in the Lyell McEwin and Flinders hospitals, Mount Gambier and Jamestown. She enjoys many areas of general practice including child health, preventative health and chronic disease management, skin lesions and minor procedures, aged care, and emergency medicine, and has special interests in women’s health and is able to provide antenatal shared care.

COVID - 19

During these uncertain times, you can rest assured that Gum Medical is doing the utmost to ensure that you and our staff remain safe. We have a number of procedures in place to limit your chances of exposure.
If you have any of the following symptoms, or are concerned that you may have been at an exposure site:
fever (a temperature of 37.5˚C or higher) or chills.
loss of taste or smell
sore throat
tiredness (fatigue)
runny or blocked nose
shortness of breath (difficulty breathing)
nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea
muscle or joint pain
Please get a COVID test and isolate at home until you receive a negative result as per SA Health guidelines.
Our doctors will all be wearing fit-tested N95 masks and goggles that provide the highest level of protection reasonably possible.

You can help by wearing a mask while you are in our clinic and maintaining social distancing. To minimize the time, you spend sitting in the waiting room we ask that you wait for your appointment outside or in your car. You can let us know that you have arrived by checking in on the HotDoc app, otherwise ring the doorbell or call and let reception know on 8389 1009. We will then contact you when the doctor or nurse is available to see you.

We do continue to offer face to face appointments where appropriate, but ask that, if appropriate and safe, you consider a telehealth appointment instead.
