MBBCh, BHSc (Hons)

  • Obstetric shared care
  • Paediatrics and child health
  • Lifestyle medicine and chronic disease management

Dr Alex Horner was born and raised in Adelaide, and travelled to the UK to earn his medical degree, where he developed a passion for rural general practice in south Wales. It was during his time and through his work across the Adelaide Hills that Alex has developed a deep passion for long-term health through continuity and community engagement. Returning home to start his specialist GP training, he gained valuable experience at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in obstetrics and paediatrics. He is an accredited Obstetric Shared Care GP and can support women throughout pregnancy. Obstetric shared care is a collaborative model that allows women to receive the majority of their routine pregnancy care in the familiar, convenient setting of their local clinic, while remaining linked to a public hospital for their birth.

Today, he splits his time between consulting at Gum Medical and working in the Emergency Department at Mount Barker Hospital, consulting as a registrar with the ongoing support of our senior doctors. When he’s not at the clinic or the ED, Alex is usually outdoors chasing after his two young kids, going for a run, or supporting local wildlife conservation projects.
