Dr Erika Nishimoto graduated in medicine from the University of Adelaide in 1993. After surgical and emergency medicine training in New South Wales and Victoria, she branched into international medical assistance and retrieval, including work in Singapore and London, and has been an aviation medical examiner caring for airline crew and passengers. Her volunteer work has ranged from six years as a motorsport doctor at the Melbourne Grand Prix to international disaster response.
Erika came to general practice for the chance it gives to practise preventive medicine. Her focus is helping patients understand and take charge of their own health, particularly where chronic conditions are concerned, and she likes patients to expect that they will be part of the team managing their own care. Her first appointment with a new patient is always a long consultation, so there is time to look properly at everything they bring.
Her particular interests include occupational health assessments, including for drivers, volunteers and aged care staff, menopause and women’s health, review of sports concussion, and travel medicine, including medical clearances for air travel.
Erika worked in Hahndorf in 2021 and 2022, and jumped at the reason to come back to the Adelaide Hills. Outside work she is kept happily busy by her family. Erika also speaks Japanese.
