What you can expect

Time appropriate to the issue

A repeat script and a significant concern or worry are not the same appointment, so we do not book them the same way. A rough idea is all reception needs to book the right length of time. If you would rather not say, just ask for a longer appointment.

Transparent fees and flexible appointment lengths

Gum Medical is a mixed-billing practice. Some services are bulk billed and some have an out-of-pocket cost, and the fee follows the length of the appointment. Our consultation fees are published in full on the appointments and fees page, so you can check the cost before you book. For procedures and other services, ask reception when you book. If you take regular medication or have a chronic health condition, our chronic condition management plans and health assessments are valuable tools to help you manage, and they are bulk billed.

Respect and dignity for everyone

We do not discriminate in the care we provide. Those in our care include the people who come in with you, and the people who work here. We ask for feedback, and we use it to change how we do things.

What we do

General practice covers a lot of ground. These are the main groups. The detail sits on the services page.

The people you will see

Gum Medical is a teaching practice. Alongside our GPs you may meet registrars and doctors in training, working with supervision.

When we are closed

If it is life-threatening, call 000. The nearest 24 hour emergency department is Mount Barker Hospital, Wellington Road, Mount Barker.

Urgent but not an emergency? The Gumeracha Nurse-Led Clinic at the Gumeracha hospital sees patients aged 5 and over, 1pm to 8pm weekdays and 9am to 4pm on weekends and public holidays, phone (08) 8209 9220. Bulk billed, and not an emergency department.

For advice at any hour, call 1800MEDICARE on 1800 633 422 or healthdirect on 1800 022 222. Both are free 24 hour nurse lines that can arrange an after-hours GP phone or video consult.
